Environment concepts for Fury by Naetyr, for a map code-named "Crystal Castle".
I started developing this environment in November 2017, with the idea of an alien planet that has large-scale versions of some Earth flora. We wanted the environment to feel familiar, but alien at the same time, so adding a lot of fungi helped achieved that. Some of the most important elements for this map was the contrast of colors like the red mushroom tops against the green, brown, and grey megalithic trees. We also tried to make this central tree look very ancient, so we decided to give the base of the tree layers of petrified wood that would transition into a more lively texture. Adding giant amber crystals also helped sell the look of this environment being ancient.
